Beschreibung im Werk (engl.)

This Plant is found growing in Stony places; the Leaves of it are commonly about two Inches in length, and are very thick sett with Spines of a Strawcolour; the whole Plant seldom exceeds two Foot high in our Climate, where it has not been known to produce either Flower or Fruit, unless in the Garden at Badminton, belonging to that imcomparable, Patroness of Natural Learning, the late Dutchess of Beaufort, by whose excellent Skill and Direction, this Plant was brought to blossom about June; the Petals of the Flower are of a Sulphur Colour, the Aptces more inclining to White; the Fruit, altho it was full grown, did not come to Maturity.

This Plant is propagated by setting single Leaves of it about half an Inch deep in the Earch, and requires very little Water.
